Hero in Me

As I look deep within
Amidst the dark and sin
There shines a light
The light of redemption
A mirror of confusion
Between who I want to be
And the person I am today
It lets me breathe the breath of life
That keeps me still and quiet and wanting to stay

A person who has helped his family
When there was no one to help
A person who has loved till it hurts
Even if it meant getting hit with handfuls of dirt
My cries fell upon ears that couldn’t hear
Leaving echoes that remain year after year

I am Romero proud son of a simple man
Humble to many but still taking a stand
Hoping one day the fight was not for naught
Because holding on to the hero in me
Is all that I got
