Los Angeles County Arts Commission
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission fosters excellence, diversity, vitality, understanding and accessibility of the arts in Los Angeles County, encompassing 88 municipalities and 137 unincorporated areas, and provides leadership in cultural services. It funds our writing empowerment program for job seekers @ Chrysalis job center. It runs the largest arts internship program in the country, coordinates the LA County Arts Education Collective, manages the County’s civic art policy, and produces free community programs.
The Geffen Playhouse
From our first class, The Geffen Playhouse one of LA’s premier theatres- has partnered with Urban Possibilities (UP) to include world-class performance and theatre education as part of our curriculum. Study guides, and discussion groups prep students to examine and experience award-winning plays. Geffen Playhouse teaching artists lead our students in improv, stage presentation and more to think on their feet and bring their work to life in our end-of-class performances.
Chrysalis
Chrysalis is a non-profit employment program that believes the pathway to self-sufficiency begins with a job. Through three locations, its helps more than 400 homeless and low-income job seekers each week mount a job search and find employment. Our classes are held within their downtown Los Angeles facility to further help job seekers find confidence, present powerfully during job interviews and overcome internal barriers to employment. Since its founding in 1984, Chrysalis has served over 58,000 clients.
Poets & Writers, Inc.
Founded in 1970, Poets & Writers is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization serving creative writers. It supports their professional development, publishes the bi-monthly Poets & Writers magazine and works to ensure that literature is appreciated by the widest possible public. Their grants support our creative writing teachers and their public events like Connecting Cultures provide an opportunity for UP graduates to perform alongside the country’s most talented writers.
Omnes Records
Founded by accomplished artists Seven Baily and Andrae Alexander, Omnes Records is more than a record label, its owners believe that music is a universal language that can enlighten, educate and break boundaries. As the Urban Possibilities musical directors, they use music to awaken and strengthen voices and expand beliefs.
